Meet the Winners of Pitch Your Project 2024!

Youth

The future of the Alpine Region is in great hands, as three outstanding projects have been crowned winners of this year’s Pitch Your Project competition! Held during the EUSALP Annual Forum 2024 in Slovenia, the competition brought together innovative young minds aged 16 to 29, all eager to present creative solutions for a sustainable and resilient Alpine Region.

These winning projects show the creativity and dedication of young people while tackling key issues in the Alps, such as mobility, water management, circular economy, and youth involvement. Chosen by a panel of stakeholders and audience votes, these young innovators prove that great ideas can shape a better future.

Let's discover the top three projects that stood out among the competition and learn how these young innovators are making a meaningful impact on the Alpine Region.

1st place - Ville à Joie

Ville à Joie revitalizes rural villages by bringing back essential public services, healthcare, digital access, and local commerce in the form of traveling festivals. These unique events, animated by young local residents, bring back proximity and social bonds between inhabitants. Through local gatherings, they gain easy access to services (health, administrative procedures, housing renovation...) typically far away. Currently, Ville à Joie serves villages in the French Alpine region and is now looking to expand this impactful model in neighbouring Alpine European rural areas.

This project received a prize money of 5000euros from the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

2nd place - Carbon Wise

Alexandra is a traveler who cares about her carbon footprint. She believes that board games have the potential of being an incredibly powerful medium for educating current and future generations on important topics such has mobility and global warming.  She made an educational boardgame about travelling sustainably in Europe, and she want to propose making an alpine version of it.

This project received a prize money of 3000euros from the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

3rd place - Alpaqua

Frederick is concern about the environmental impact of the clothing industry in the world. In the Alpine regions, high-performance textiles such as shell materials that protect against hypothermia are widespread. At the same time, the share of microplastics from clothing in the world's oceans accounts for 33%, surpassing tire wear and urban fine dust. These textiles are made from petrochemical fibers like nylon or polyester. By 2030, an increase to 200 billion garments is expected (cf. Quarks, 2019). Therefore, we are developing a technical bio-based natural fiber for mountain sports applications which can replace them all.

This project received a prize money of 2000euros from the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

4th place - EU Youth Career Incubator

Countries all over the world, and especially in Europe, are talking about youth involvement. However, many organizations struggle to reach their audience and, sadly, most young people never know about ongoing initiatives. Our project aims at solving this lack of information. We want to build a community-based Wiki where all current and future youth initiatives are stored in a common database. An integrated chatbot function allows for individualized searching and offers a unique solution to the unequal distribution of information in our countries.

5th place - Alps 2.0

The "Alps 2.0: Sustainable Paths for the Next Generation" project envisions a vibrant, community-focused school nestled in the Alpine rural agricultural world. This initiative is designed to create spaces for gatherings, training, and laboratories dedicated to the Alpine circular economy. By engaging young people through hands-on actions related to the Alpine environment and circular economy, the project aims to foster a deeper connection with the region's rich heritage and sustainable practices.

Congratulations to all the participants and thank you to the audience for their support during the finale.
