CERVINO

Named after one of the most iconic Alpine peaks, the CERVINO project aims to develop a shared energy data platform for the Alpine region. Such a platform is essential to support cross-border energy cooperation and contribute to the EU’s objective of climate neutrality by 2050.

The Alpine Space is characterised by significant energy flows between regions, creating strong potential for joint energy projects. Reliable and harmonised cross-regional energy data are a prerequisite to define, implement and assess such initiatives. However, building a solid transnational data base remains challenging due to differences in spatial and temporal scales, data availability, update costs, and the need for clear and accessible data presentation for all stakeholders.

CERVINO addresses these challenges by developing the CERVINO Alpine Energy Data Platform, building on the experience of the EUSALP Energy Survey conducted within Action Group 9 in 2017 and updated in 2019. The project reshapes and upgrades this existing framework, developing a user-friendly and automated data management tool, conducting a renewed survey, and validating the proposed solutions. A dedicated roadmap will ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, paving the way towards an Alpine Energy Observatory.

Stakeholder involvement is a key component of the project, with regional authorities and members of EUSALP Action Group 9 closely engaged throughout the development process. The CERVINO Alpine Energy Data Platform was made available in March 2024, providing an efficient, regularly updated and cost-effective tool for energy data exchange across the Alpine region.
