ADAPTNOW

The Interreg Alpine Space Project ADAPTNOW, "ADAPTation Capacity Strengthening for Highly Affected and Exposed Territories in the Alps NOW", aims to enhance the risk management and adaptation capacities of Highly Affected and Exposed Alpine Territories (HAET) to better address the increasing frequency and unpredictability of climate-related disasters. The project aims to provide local communities and their public authorities with effective Climate Adaptation Plans and Climate Services.

To do so, ADAPTNOW implements and evaluates existing climate adaptation and risk mitigation tools and methodologies, while adopting an integrated, participatory approach to climate adaptation. By fostering collaboration, ADAPTNOW ensures that adaptation strategies are tailored to the unique needs of each region, creating solutions that are not only practical but also widely supported by experts, policymakers, and citizens.

The project, which started in 2022 and will finish at the end of 2025, involves 12 partners from 5 countries. ADAPTNOW implements pilot actions in areas already facing significant natural hazards. These pilot regions, located in five Alpine Space countries, focus on key sectors such as urban infrastructure, forestry, tourism, and health. The goal is to refine and assess the effectiveness of adaptation measures in real-world conditions, ensuring they are feasible and replicable in other HAETs in the Alps.
