Enhancing the accessibility of local and regional transport links on the secondary transport network
Governance
Under activity C of the AG4 Work Plan 2020-2022, efforts are directed at the increase of the accessibility of local and regional transport links on the secondary network and their connection with core networks. The objective is to allow for resilient transport infrastructure planning, construction and maintenance as well as enhanced public transport services.
In order to achieve this, AG4 intends to act as follows:
- Identify and map existing capacity constraints, missing links and infrastructure needs in the Alpine area – in particular on rail.
- Develop criteria for the selection of the best mode of transport for the bridging of a specific gap. These criteria ought to be in line with sustainability and socio-economic efficiency objectives.
- Compare and coordinate existing national/regional infrastructure plans from within the Alpine area.
An AG4 activity that has been ongoing since 2016 also contributing to the enhancement of secondary network accessibility is the development and application of a Methodology for a Systemic Assessment of Individual Projects. Projects successfully evaluated receive a label indicating their relevance for the fostering of sustainable transport in the Alpine Region from a macroregional perspective.
