Alpine landscapes and renewable energies in times of climate crisis
On 24 and 25 May 2022, members of EUSALP and the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention discussed about Alpine landscapes and renewable energies in times of climate crisis during the EUSALP Landscape Conference in Bolzano/Bozen!
The aim of the EUSALP Landscape Conference was to foster an exchange about land use conflicts related to renewable energy production in the Alpine Region.
Climate change is already occurring at increasing speed in the Alps. On the one hand, this crisis is transforming the natural site conditions, on the other hand, measures to adapt to climate change, such as increased protective measures against natural hazards, can have a significant impact on landscapes. The promotion of landscape qualities can in turn be a societal response to climate challenges including preserving peatlands for CO2 storage or fostering urban greening to cool cities.
On 25 May, the participants took part in an excursion to experience the effects of climate change on Alpine landscape first-hand. In fact, they crossed different altitudes and types of landscapes from Bolzano/Bozen to Kurzras in Val Senales/Schnalstal.
This was also the occasion one of the stops of the EUSALP Road Show on the topic of 'Spatial Planning' took place, which also involved the EUSALP Action Groups 6, 4 and 7.
Simultaneous translation into English, German and Italian was provided during the conference.
In addition, a live broadcast was released on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/100008129148840/videos/1098622470750172/).
This event was realized in the framework of the AlpGov 2 project (Nr. 942), which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg Alpine Space programme.
Conclusions & recommendations adopted by Action Group 6 at the end of the conference.
